Bishop George K. Horton is a uniquely gifted and powerful preacher, teacher and leader who, for nearly 20 years, has utilized a holistic approach in ministering to the needs of family, congregation, and community.
A native of Zebulon, NC, he is the youngest of five children born to the late Romas and Naomi Horton. He is married to the former Gloria Taylor.
Bishop Horton joins St. John following nearly 20 years of pastoring New Fellowship Baptist Church in Clinton, Maryland. He has made many accomplishments and shares his God-given gifts and talents in many different capacities.
Bishop Horton’s many accomplishments include organizing Voices of Angels Community Choir, which consisted of a large group of members from various churches throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area; he appeared on the local Morning Show several times to discuss his mission for helping those without health care through fundraising; and Bishop Horton is a church planter, having assisted with the development of new services and new worship centers.
Academically prepared, Bishop Horton received his education from Maryland University and various trade schools. Bishop Horton also attended Wilbert Waters School of Divinity in Washington, DC in addition to Howard University. In March 2002, he received his Doctorate of Divinity Degree from East Carolina Theological Institute, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Bishop Horton's love for the Lord and all people strengthens his desire to bring souls to Christ. He believes pastoring St. John will be the peak of his profession and ministry. Bishop Horton and family are excited about this new challenge and have committed to carrying the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all.
